Self Defense Tactics: Energy of Fighting (Part 1)

Being in an altercation is sometimes unavoidable and a serious one. One should know how to act especially when you are facing a big guy.

I have stumbled upon YouTube regarding this reality show which shows the classic example of a smaller guy cornered by a big dude. Obviously, the smaller guy got intimidated.

I have made a quick demonstration in my gym to show you how to react and counter in these kind of situations. The key to overcome these is to take quick, decisive action.

Watch the video as I demonstrate.

Nice video This brings back memories when I was in Tae Kwon do class. I was not a go look for trouble type of guy but I did solve 100% of my fights when ever they came. And you are right about don’t leave your arm to your side like that .Simple because those are you main weapon. I’ve learned to read body languege early in my TKD career. That was one of the factor that gave me success in ever one of my battles.
    Keep up the good work.

    Respectfully

  • That was rubbish. You spent 8 + minutes talking and showed one move. Effective I agree but there must be more than this. What a bore. Why did you spend so long telling us about what you were going to show us and then only have one idea?

I studied five animals kempo as a young adult and earned an instructor class black belt 2nddan in this style.
They taught us in our first three self defense classes (before I studied for combat and teaching)to always hold your hands up palms out fingers stretched as if to say through body language, hey no problems or resistance here, and then as soon as you see them look at your hands up in front of you offering no resistance, throw a front ball kick to their centerline on either the solar plexis, stomach, groin, or knees, at lowest level of ability a heel stomp w/ scrape down the shins.
The reason I was told to use a kick or stomp is, because your own hands can distract your opponent, and also partialy block your opponents view of your lower half making your attack slightly imperceptable.
Usually perception of an attack involves gleening a combination of body languages put forth by an aggressor that leed to the offensive action itself

I’m really grateful that someone puts things up like this. At school, I’m hated by many of my peers because I’m smarter and faster than them, and teachers like me better–most of the time. I had someone YESTERDAY try and provoke me into fighting them, but like I said, I’m smart, and I know that I could hurt them, so I “ever so kindly” rejected. I live in the inter-city, and I have been sincerely and insincerley threatened to be jumped before. Seeing as almost everyone who’s threatened me is in a gang, I’m REALLY grateful that someone is showing people how to further protect themselves. I hate it when people try to intimidate me, and instead of me being cowed into submission, I get pissed off. I try to keep my temper even, but it gets hard, especialy on a daily basis. So if/WHEN the day comes that someone decides to follow through with their threat (which I doubt, but still don’t want to get my ass kicked anyway), at least I’ll be prepared. I appreciate the little guy/big guy cornering thing in this, because I’m only 5’2″…. Anyway, thanks.

I have experience street fighting so I could have handled that in many ways. The little guy could have just kicked him in the balls if he was a sissy as he appears. That’ll pretty much end any fight, or he could have clapped him in the ears. Ive done this several times in such situations and it really gets that other guy open for more devestating blows; finishing moves. Another thing that little guy could have done was head but him in the chin, just to get him to back up a bit, then follow it up with a fury of blows.
